The Texans were the original Gold Miners who moved to San Antonio from Sacramento. There originally was to be a San Antonio CFL team in 1993, but that team folded when their owner ran out of money and was forced to withdraw from the league.

In their third season in the league but first in San Antonio, the franchise finally made the CFL playoffs. The Texans featured the second-best scoring offense in the league behind veteran quarterback David Archer, who had also spent time in the World League of American Football and the National Football League. They whipped Birmingham in the first round of the playoff before falling to eventual champion Baltimore in the Southern Division final.
